A three-day training for election awareness officers was held last week in Honiara.

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) conducted the training.

The training is to aid the officers on knowledge of the electoral process so that they can go out and inform the members of the public on issues relating to the 2019 National General Elections.

The training is part of a program, which started in 2015.

Philothea Paul, SIEC’s Public Relations Officer said the aim is to get the officers know their roles and prepare themself on how to conduct awareness and other roles and responsibilities of their work.

Ms Paul added that some of the sessions covered in the training includes election and democracy.

“And also let them know about the roles of MPs so that people may know and also to help them make their choice in the election,” Ms Paul said.

“We encourage people to understand the democratic process through conduct of election,” Ms Paul said.

Meanwhile, Ms Paul said that the awareness would help people a lot to understand why they must participate vote including the understanding of the power of the ballot paper.
