RSIPF Investigates the Death of a Woman in East Kwaio

Police have taken the body to the morgue at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara for a post-mortem.

A team of officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Malaita Province have been sent to Afeala’a Village in East Kwaio to investigate a fight between two disputing parties yesterday (19 November) which has resulted in the death of a woman.

Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial, Superintendent Ishmael Vunagi explained: “According to information RSIPF has received, the fight resulted in the death of a woman and several others believed to be seriously wounded. The fight between two parties involved knives and other weapons.”

“This is a very serious situation and we are making possible arrangements to respond to the incident as soon as possible to avoid further confrontation. So far it is not clear what caused the fight but information received say it could have been the result of a boy and girl relationship.”

“I appeal to parties involved to calm down and avoid further confrontation that may lead to more loss of lives. Allow the police and your chiefs to settle the matter in a peaceful way,” AC Vunagi said.

Officers from Honiara will be deployed to assist officers in Malaita as the situation is tense.

Provincial Police Commander for Malaita Provincial, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia appeals to the general public in and around the Kwaibaita River in East Malaita to support the police with relevant information on the matter.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at Afeala’a market between members of the same Village who are believed to be related to each.
