PM Orders Investigation into Forestry Fraud

PRIME Minister Rick Hou is very disturbed by reports of the alleged fraud within the Ministry of Forestry & Research.

The Prime Minister today has instructed his Chief of Staff to get to the bottom of the matter immediately.

This followed reports that the Commissioner of Forest and some landowners have illegally carried out logging operations on an abandoned Government land reserved for the Komaridi Hydro scheme in East Guadalcanal.

The report alleged the felling license was granted by the Commissioner of Forest.

“We will investigate this matter and take necessary action as soon as we obtain further information. We cannot tolerate such actions,” the Prime Minister said in a statement issued by the Press Secretariat today.

The statement said the Prime Minister has taken the reports seriously and assured that the individuals, including any government officer that is involved in such illegal activities, will be dealt with accordingly.
