THE Leader of Opposition, Hon. Matthew Wale is concerned about the statement made by the Minister for Police National Security and Correction Services Honorable Lanelle Tanangada on terrorism when she delivered her address at the National Security Summit when she said, Solomon Islands does not have a threat from Terrorism.
Mr. Wale points out that no country is exempt from the threat of internal and external terrorism and the National Security Strategy and Policy must anticipate all possible threats to the Solomon Islands.
“It is naïve to discount the threat of terrorism or from other forces to the security of the Solomon Islands.
“The National Security and Policy must be comprehensive and must scam all minor threats from climate change, food security, internal strife and internal conflicts, transnational crime, internal and external terrorism, belligerence activities by other nations, international geopolitical policies, health of Solomon Islands population, and such other factors that must be considered and given appropriate weight and due consideration,” the Opposition Leader said.
He added that the national security of Solomon Islands must be front and centre of all government policy and actions to ensure a safe, secure, orderly and prosperous Solomon Islands.
“It is therefore important that the Minister and the government do not underestimate any potential source of threats to Solomon Islands national security,” the Opposition Leader further added.
