THE Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) has welcomed the election of Member of Parliament for Small Malaita, Hon. Rick Houenipwela as the new Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.
SICCI Chair Jay Bartlett, on behalf of its members, the business community and the Solomon Islands private sector, acknowledged Hon. Rick Hou’s victory for the Solomon Islands Democratic Coalition for Change Government (SIDCCG) and pledged the Chamber’s continued support for the new government.
“The Chamber joins the country in congratulating Hon. Rick Hou as our new Prime Minister and extending the same to his new Cabinet members. We look forward to Hon. Rick Hou’s leadership and are eager to continue the strong partnership the Chamber has established and enjoys with the government,” said Mr Bartlett.
“We are confident that Hon. Hou and his administration under the new coalition will strive in their best ability to enhance the lives of Solomon Islanders both in the public and private sectors.”
SICCI CEO, Dennis Meone applauds Hon. Rick Hou’s renewed commitment for the government to immediately push forward priorities deemed achievable in Parliament’s remaining term and continue with increased level of policy implementation.
These include stabilizing the country’s ailing fiscal situation, reinforce the Undersea Cable Project, deliver the Anti-Corruption Bill, re-engage with the donor community and putting together a balanced national budget for 2018.
Mr Meone says the private sector through the Chamber is looking forward to working closely with the new government in furthering Public Private Partnership (PPP) through the MOU signed with the government earlier this year.
SICCI acknowledges citizens of the country and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in ensuring peace and order during the political impasse over the past few weeks and during the Prime Minister’s Election.
The Chamber also extends its appreciation and gratitude, on behalf of its members, to the former Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare who has made significant contribution and outstanding progress in developing the relationship between the private sector and the Solomon Islands Government through its Public Private Partnership policy.
