SPECIAL Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Kentaro Sonoura has paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Rick Hou yesterday.
During the meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet (OPMC), Mr Sonoura has conveyed the message from the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Prime Minister Hou.
“Prime Minister Abe is looking forward in meeting you in the upcoming Palm 8 and hopes to further strengthen the mutual relationship shared between both countries,” he said.
Mr Sonoura said Japan stands willing to continue to assist Solomon Islands in infrastructure developments.
He also informed Prime Minister Hou of Japan’s new Indo-Pacific Strategy which aims to improve connectivity between the Pacific and Indian Oceans and between the African and Asian continents.
Prime Minister Hou in response has acknowledged the relations and friendship shared between both countries.
The Prime Minister said Japan is an important partner to Solomon Islands and has continued to support Solomon Islands in the areas of Infrastructure, education and other sectoral programs.
“The Government and people of Solomon Islands will be forever grateful for the assistance from the Government and people of Japan,” he said.
The Prime Minister said Solomon Islands greatly benefitted from Japan not only bilaterally but also through multilateral means.
Prime Minister Hou also acknowledged Japan’s willingness to focus on tourism infrastructure related programs.
Mr Hou said he is looking forward to meeting the Japanese Prime Minister during the Palm 8 meeting to further pursue the infrastructure development programs in the country.
