PRC Handed Over $2.5 Million to Combat COVID-19

China Red Cross steps in to help Solomon Islands.


THE China Red Cross with the recent devastating cyclone Harold, has decided to contribute to help Solomon Islands Government in its relief efforts.

A total amount of US$100,000 which is equivalent to SBD$800,000 was handed over to the government of Solomon Islands on Wednesday 16th April as part of its assistance towards rehabilitation efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Harold.

The official handing over of the funds was made to the Country’s Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister, Jeremiah Manele at the Prime Minister’s Office by Counsellor Yao Ming of the Republic of China Embassy.

The assistance towards SI Government’s TC Harold relief efforts was one of the two cheques worth SBD$3.3m delivered by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Government to the Government help combat COVID-19 and to support the country’s rehabilitation efforts post TC Harold.

$2.5m (USD$300,000) of the total $3.3m will go towards combating COVID-19 whilst the $800,000 (USD$100,000) from China Red Cross will assist the country in its recovery efforts following Tropical Cyclone Harold.

The People’s Republic of China has also recently donated corona virus test kits and personal protective equipment which according to Hon Jeremiah Manele, will arrive in the country in due course.
