Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his independence anniversary address on 7th July 2020, has stated that the priority of his government is to ensure that the country maintains economic stability, remains safe and continues to progress despite the current situation.
Prime Minister Sogavare stated that the government is currently in the process of redirecting policies to focus on investing in and firmly establishing the fundamental pillars of development.
“The policies redirection will be based on inclusivity and meaningful participation that will also provide a catalyst for socio-economic growth in strategically targeted sectors,” Sogavare said.
He said in view of the prevailing circumstances of our policy redirection, it is also being designed to streamline government expenditure and maintain fiscal prudence.

The details of the policy re-direction will also be reflected in the budget.
“This year has been a trying time for our country.
“We entered uncharted waters, where our resolve was questioned, and our individual and collective character put to the test not only by the global pandemic but also by our business and as usual politics,” PM Sogavare said.
